4.Record Ride 

He's called the Flying Cyclist and Chris Marris hopes to live up to his name when he attempts to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to cycle across Australia from Perth to Sydney.
Marris wants to make the 3,924km crossing in under eight days, about 10 per cent faster than the current record, which stands at eight days, 10 hours and 57 minutes. That record was set by Australian Richard Vollebregt in October 2006.

The popularity of mass participation cycling events continues to grow in WA and in the past couple of years there has been a surge in the number of off-road cycling events. The latest is the Kep Track Adventure, a one-day event that takes in the entire 70 or so kilometres of the Kep Track from Northam to Mundaring.

9.$1.1 million raised for cancer research 

A team of 60 cyclists that included Australian Paralympic champion Michael Milton covered 560km over three days at the end of May to raise funds for cancer research. The ‘Midi-Smiddy', which raised nearly $150,000, is a spin-off from the eight-day Bottlemart Smiling for Smiddy Challenge held each year in September.
