When podiatrist Hayley Uden noticed a spike in the number of her patients reporting foot pain from cycling, she decided to investigate. She was surprised to learn that there was little research available in the area. Her interest piqued, she decided to embark on an online survey to establish the extent of the problem.

Some people treat centennial Park as a velodrome, with disregard for those around them. It has always been known as the people’s park. More than six-and-a-half million people, on foot, in cars, on horses, on roller blades and, increasingly, on bikes visit Sydney’s Centennial Park each year. An estimated 700,000 cyclists pass through annually and while the burst of pedal power is generally applauded, it has also left some wondering where a large minority of these cyclists has parked their manners.
